From the Artist: “It was one of those late fall days when the weather was very unsettled. One moment the sun would be out and the next a storm would roll up the valley with wind, rain and sleet. I was painting in front of the picture window in my living room as the sun started its descent to the western horizon. I looked up just as the clouds were passing and the sun was setting. This was promising to be a special moment. I went to the field in front of my house with my camera and was treated to a scene that fills me with awe to this day. The sky was ablaze with color, which lit the landscape with reds and oranges. A mist was swirling off the hills with the sudden change in temperature. I did not see a great horned owl that night but often heard their distinctive hoots echoing across that valley. I could easily imagine one leaving its roost for the night as the weather began to calm.”
