“The look of a milkweed in the late fall and winter when the silk and seeds are emerging from the pod inspired this painting. The idea for this painting had been stirring for a long time. One day I was driving along a remote road in North Central Pennsylvania when I saw these milkweeds that were beautifully side lit by the descending sun. I also knew that I wanted to put a bird in the painting and a goldfinch with its subdued winter plumage fit the bill nicely. It compliments the pod and does not over power it. I would still like to do a goldfinch in its grand summer plumage, but that would not work for this painting because it would be biologically impossible.
