“I love big cats and the cougar is North America’s only
common representative of that group. It is a sleek and powerful animal
capable of taking down prey much larger than itself. Yet a cougar is
a beautiful and secretive animal that is rarely seen by people even
where their populations are strong. What I tried to capture with this
simple portrait is the intensity of the cat’s stare as locked
on to something of interest.”
